Una-As that is the name she was known by throughout her life (it was her confirmation given name), was part of a very large Irish family. Her childhood was that of much hunger and poverty. She worked hard from a very young age, collecting milk with a milk yoke on her shoulders before she went to school. She always had fond memories of her Ma. which was her grandma, always telling stories with happy and loving memories of this woman. She worked side by side with her Mother Kathleen, scrubbing floors, and always remembered how much her knees hurt!
